I work with a wide range of organizations to produce clear, concise, and engaging content that is targeted to a specific audience and tailored for a particular medium. My past clients include publishers; non-governmental organizations in the environmental, health, and social services sectors; political parties; businesses; and community groups.
My services include research, writing, substantive editing, and copyediting across a wide variety of projects, including annual reports, stakeholder communications, fact sheets, newsletters, news releases, marketing materials, scripts, and digital content. I also advise on publishing ventures, media awareness campaigns, and crisis communication strategies and offer training and workshops on a range of related topics.
A lot of my experience involves working with public health groups to craft and communicate timely, engaging messages. For example, I was hired by the Be a Breast Friend Project, organized by a consortium of health units in Haldimand-Norfolk, Brant, Halton, Hamilton, and Niagara. The project was based on research that identified hair stylists as being uniquely well-positioned to discuss potentially sensitive issues with their clients because of the intimate nature of their relationship. To capitalize on this relationship, I was engaged to oversee the creation, editing, and production of a single-issue, full-colour magazine designed as a public education tool to encourage and enable hair stylists to talk to their clients about the importance of regular breast screening. The project was funded by the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation-Ontario Region, whose partners included the Canadian Cancer Society and the Ontario Breast Screening Program.
